Poznań Benefits Center

The scope of work included renovation of the facade, including restoration of damaged front facade details, restoration of wooden doors, cast iron stairs, stone stairs, and restoration of the entrance gate. At the intersection of Za Bramką and Wszystkich Świętych Streets, the facade features a beautiful cartouche with the coat of arms of Poznan.

Working at a working facility allowed for noisy work only during certain hours. We planned the work so as not to disrupt the work of the Poznań Benefits Center, which meant, among other things. Adjusting to the extended working hours of officials.

We carried out a series of conservation studies, which allowed us to check what materials were used to make the various stucco elements and what colors they were covered with.

In the medieval period, the site of the building was occupied by All Saints’ Church and a cemetery, which functioned from the 15th to the 19th century as a so-called “cemetery” for the poor. The church was destroyed in 1655 during the Swedish wars. In its place, a chapel was built in the early 18th century, which was demolished just before the school was built in 1840.

Relics of the structure are located under the building. Since the 1840s, for more than 150 years, the building served as a school, and in the last post-war period, it housed a special elementary school. Part of the building also housed a printing technical school, after which a kindergarten took over the premises. Since 2007, the building has housed the Poznań Benefits Center.

Thanks to stratigraphic research, it was possible to restore the original colors of the facade and the beautiful cartouche with the coat of arms of Poznan on the corner of the building.- Radoslaw Piechnik, Project Manager
