More than six years ago, the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences bought the villa from the Poznan City Hall in order to adapt it for its own use. Due to the state in which the building was in, it was necessary to raise sufficiently large funds to enable comprehensive renovation work.
After several years of effort, ICHB PAN secured the required funds and last November launched a tender for the reconstruction of the building under the design and build formula. The investor took great care to verify the experience of the participants in the bidding process. The contracting authority was particularly keen for the contractor to have extensive experience in conducting the reconstruction of historic buildings and to be specialized in the design and build formula. The tender was won by the Poznan-based company DEMIURG, which implemented, among other things. The redevelopment of the Children’s Hospital under the Sun on Dębińska Road, and is currently working on the Arsenal City Gallery in the Old Market.
Located in the center of Poznań, the building has stood empty and unused until now. According to the plan of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the facility is to regain its former glory and gain a completely new function. It will house the Center for Innovation and Social Education of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, including laboratories and lecture and educational halls for both scientists and the community of Poznan.
There is quite a challenge ahead of us, which we are very eager to take on. The beautiful historic building in the center of Poznań will become a modern Center for Innovation and Social Education of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences. After the recent realization of the Children’s Hospital under the Sun in Poznań in the design and build formula, I am convinced that we will meet the expectations of the Investor and future users of the facility.
